Winning by Cheating is a Hollow Victory 

 

First I commend you for your "Play by the Rules" concept in your book. I have been involved in Scouting for several years and you have written the BEST book on Pinewood Derbies I have ever seen.

...I got my copy of your book at the Scout Office of the Sagamore Council in Indiana and am going to suggest that my council get them too...

...I also am interested in finding out what the new finding you made while making this book.


I have put on several clinics at the pack, district and county levels here in north central Indiana. I do this to help teach the dads that cheating and winning will be a very shallow victory. Their son will remember that "they bought" the trophy, and that they missed out on the fun of building a car.

Thank you again, and I will try to get everyone I see that is involved with the Pinewood Derby to buy a copy.

 ...I wanted to drop you a note and thank-you for sharing your hints with my son and I.  Last year we built his car and it hardly made it to the end of the track!  This year he placed first in his age group and second overall...

 

...he was so proud and did it himself...

Lasting Memories

 

...every year our church group hosts a "cubscout-type" Pinewood Derby race.  My son and I always finished at the bottom of the group.

 

After reading your book we included your suggestions in our car and WOW!  We won!

 

This was the last year that we could race...and it has given us a memory that we still talk about...

The Quick-build Guide

 

 ...your hints helped us keep focused on what matters and stop wasting time on things that didn't... 

 

...you know how life is...we never seem to have enough time...

 

...this year we didn't begin building our car until the weekend before the BIG RACE!

 

We used your "quick build guide they" and knocked out our racer in a few hours...I am not a woodworking kind of guy...but it sure did help!

My Entire Pack is Using the Book...

 

My entire pack will be using your Pinewood-Winning by the Rules book this year.  Last year, all of the boys who  bought your book, followed your advice and instructions, took a place in the race, but there was something much more important.  After reading your book, they became the pack advocates of "following the rules" and declared themselves the "Ambassadors of Sportsmanship." 

 

Every Kit that we purchase we will include your book.  We are going to follow the "Quick Build" section in our Derby Workshops.

 

You are right!  There are many more things we can teach our future leaders with this race...I am not going to let this chance slip by!
