Pinnacle Car Racing and "Pinewood-Winning by the Rules" began as a father-son effort to build the fastest Pinewood Derby racer. Over the course of 4 years, we searched out the "secrets" and gleaned "fact from fiction." The result; We built racers that won 3 district championships, with each car getting subsequently faster!

Although "they beat us to the term," We became Pinewood Derby "Mythbusters" and learned that most of the "secrets" made little or no difference to the real speed of the racer and only made the people selling "the screts" money!

Using statistically grounded testing, hundreds of cars and thousands of races, we refined the list of "facts" to a "vital few." We also were able to build racers that "could do it" without cheating! That list of discoveries and our passion for "fair play' culminated in the book "Pinewood-Winning by the Rules." A how to guide to building faster Pinewood Derby racers, without cheating.

"The Pinewood Derby experience can be a fond memory for parents and sons. Winning is just part of the equation. More important, are the lessons of HONESTY, INTERGRITY, FAIR-PLAY and SPORTSMANSHIP. If the Pinewood Derby is to be a lasting memory of our scouts, Shouldn't these lessons also be embedded? These scouts are our future leaders. Do you want them (as adults) to think that "bending the rules...to win" is OK?
